Monteverdi Christmas Vespers

Honegger Christmas Cantata.

Stravinsky Symphony of Psalm

The Burgate Singers and The Burgate Ensemble

Conducted by Alain Judd.

The Burgate Singers are back at the Corn Hall for their Winter Concert. The Burgate Singers are presenting a concert of beautiful and exciting seasonal music. The serenely beautiful, much-loved Christmas Vespers by Monteverdi is the main work in the first half of the concert. And then, after the interval two shorter pieces. Honegger’s Christmas Cantata is full of surprises. Some of the audience may believe, as the choir did at the first rehearsal, that they don’t know the piece, but as it goes on it becomes more and tantalizingly familiar. Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms is an exhilarating and approachable work, composed in 1930 for the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and has always been of his most popular works.

From 17th century serenity to 20th century fireworks this concert will be a rewarding  and enjoyable starter for the festive season.
